It occured to me that the ADS list might be transforming the history of the
American language by resurrecting and or giving transient terms some
respectability in academic circles. Nothing wrong with that since they have
their place in history and I intentionally use such archaic or regional
words and pronunciations in every day discourse just to see if anyone knows
what the hell I am talking about.
Try it some time and see what those you are talking to think you are talking
about..
Do they understand what you are trying to say or do they transform them into
words, phrases, etc. which make sense to them.
This is a simple experiment which everyone on this list can do if they want
to in their spare time.
I do not know in advance what the results of your experiments will be and I
haven't even begun to develop a protocol for such an experiment.
Anyone out there have any better way of beginning such an investigation?
