Arnold,
Let me suggest a couple of alternatives that might reach more of the
audience that needs to be reached. The English Journal is the K-12 journal
of NCTE and often publishes articles and sometimes whole issues on questions
of the teaching of grammar. And they've published some pretty good stuff,
like a great piece by James Sledd. It's K-12 teachers who are teaching the
nonsense that this thread has been about, and they're the ones preparing
students for the PSAT. The other possibility is College English, the
post-secondary NCTE journal. They, however, are more comp/rhet oriented and
also don't influence K-12 as much. A piece like this would be very
effective in TEJ.
