"roach" = 'joint' butt--anything before 1938?

1938 seems so far to be the sticking point for 'roach' citations. But might
I note one small thing: the popularity c. 1895 among supporters of Pancho
Villa of the song 'La Cucaracha', which details the desire of a Villa
supporter to find 'marijuana por fumar'. Whether that dope-smoking rebel had
any bearing on the more visual link that is generally presumed to underpin
the slang I don't know. But the lyric is there.
