UNIDENTIFIED FLYING OBJECT

   OED has 1950 for "unidentified flying object."

NO EVIDENCE
Los Angeles Times (1886-Current File). Los Angeles, Calif.: Dec 28, 1949. p.
5 (1 page)
   Discontinuance of the project, which was carried out by the Air Force, was
concurred in by the Departments of the Army and the Navy.
   "The Air Force said that all evidence and analyses indicate that the
reports of unidentified flying objects are the result of:
   "1--Misinterpretation of various conventional objects;
   "2--A mild form of mass hysteria;
   "3--Or hoaxes."

GREEN MONSTER

   I've tried to send this "monster" post to ADS-L four times...The "green
monster" was not brought here by a UFO.
   PaperOf Record.com now contains THE SPORTING NEWS for 1886, and then
yearly from 1930. This is 30 years better than the 1960 date from earlier this
month.

   15 May 1957, SPORTING NEWS, pg. 14, col. 2:
   The famous left field fence at the Fens has sometimes been a nightmare to
Red Sox pitchers, who have referred to it upon occasions as a "green monster."

   4 June 1958, SPORTING NEWS, pg. 3, col. 1:
   There is another Wall becoming famous around Fenway Park.
   Unlike the one in left field which pitchers commonly call the Green
Monster, this Wall is being hailed by Hub pitchers in a most flattering fashion.
