I last heard it - in 1988 - in a residential alcohol/drug recovery
center. (Yes, I was residing there.) Someone went AWOL near the end of his
30-day stay - some others (all males, as I recall and young enough to
have been in Vietnam) surmised that he had been there only for the "3 hots
and a cot."
