Benld is 48 miles south of Springfield on I55.  I lived in Springfield for
six years and Champaign for 5, drove I55 to St. Louis often, and don't
remember the town at all.

Can anyone tell me why there is a place in Central Illinois with the
highly improbable spelling of BENLD? The spelling seems even more
improbable when one discovers that the pronuncation of this
place-name is:          b'nEld
