Greetings from a stop on the way to Etosha National Park. My guide is Hu Berry, the direcot of the park for over 15 years. He's been terrific.

RAPE TOWN--Cape Town. Perhaps of interest to Jonathon Green's book on world slang.

GANGSTER'S PARADISE--GP=Gauteng Province in South Africa. Another unfortunate nickname.

LAOS PDR--Supposedly, the People's Democratic Republic. A fellow traveler tells me it means "Please Don't Rush."

SALTED HORSE--A local term for a horse without disease.

GORF--"Frog" spelled backwards. I was told a Quebec citizen was called this.

SHORT ARM INSPECTION--Military term for a check for venereal disease on one's short arm. My military friend here gave me this.

MAGGIE'S DRAWERS--He also gave me this. I don't have time to look into it.

OT: We have a nice tour of the petroglyphs here in Namibia (101 degrees in the shade). I told the local guide that I was an American. He thought for a second, then said, "Michael Jackson lives there?"
