Greetings from New York City. My ear drums are shot. Maybe I turned up
the volume too much for the airplane selections of MYSTIC RIVER, THE HUMAN
STAIN ("Action is the enemy of thought," declares Nicole Kidman), SHATTERED GLASS,
Best of R.E.M., Best of Sheryl Crow, Best of Red Hot Chili Peppers, Norah
Jones & Alicia Keys. Hey, it killed 20 hours.
Thanks to Lynne for the "Madiba shirt on Mannikin Pis" link. It was from
THE STAR newspaper that I'd read.

SONG AND WORD USAGE

In 1998 and other years, I researched song lyrics at the NYPL's Lincoln
Center branch. See the old ADS-L archives. The De Marsan song title catalogue
(from about 1863) was useful. The Library of Congress's American Memory has
many pre-1890 song titles and full lyrics on it.
I researched for "Big Apple" song lyrics and the usage of "rock and roll."
I posted tons of swing slang.

NAIMBIAN COCKTAILS

Africa is not a big cocktail continent. (See cocktail reports from
Cancun, Hawaii, Hong Kong, Vietnam, and other places in the ADS-L archives.)
Namibia prefers its Hansa Beer, brewed in the best German style.
