        Yes, that early movie (Iska Worreh - is that good Yiddish?) was based on the comic strip, as was a second animated silent movie, Abie Kabibble Outwitted (or Outwitting - sources differ) His Rival, also from 1917.  My first thought, like yours, was to wonder how to acquire these historic early cartoons.  They don't seem to be readily available; I'm not even sure if prints survive.
