"EAT BUTTER FIRST" PROVERB
  
   I was looking for "Black Forest Cake" when I spotted these two interesting 
items.  I don't know what Fred Shapiro has for this butter proverb.  Isn't 
butter bad for you?
   From WINE AND FOOD, No. 106 Summer 1960, "BUTTER--FOOD FOR CENTENARIANS" 
by Arthur Gaunt, pg. 109:
  
 THE health-giving properties of butter are aptly expressed by an old Danish 
proverb which goes:

   This is my favorite "dish," but it's never recorded in a single cookbook 
anywhere.  I spotted a nice cartoon in CULINARY REVIEW: THE CHEFS' NATIONAL 
MAGAZINE, March 1955, pg. 5, col. 3:
