Hmmmmmm. . . . I never heard that version when I was growing up.  There must
be regional variations of one kind or another.

That's the first version I learned (with "bottles"; I assume that the
singular above is a typo). Summer camp, either New York State or
Connecticut, late 1950s or early 1960s.
