Don't they come from two quite different culinary traditions? I don't think 
of foie gras as something I'd get in a Jewish deli, nor do I think of chopped 
liver as especially French (would not expect to find FOIE HACHE´ on the menu of 
a French restaurant). So for me, Arnold's "idiosyncratic" response would 
never have emerged.
