As a tool for lexical analysis, that's undoubtedly true. But what
Dave Wilton seems to want is a way to store citation material, which
is a relatively simple task. I've used an Access database of my own
design for nearly a decade to store the citations acquired during my
reading for the OED and to output them in the format the OED needs
for direct electronic input. This works well for that limited role.
The only reason I haven't already offered it to Mr Wilton is that it
is rather specialist in its structure, not to say idiosyncratically
written!
