STOMP - Corruption of "stamp," grind under one's feet. Perhaps just a
common Negro pronunciation.

Prof. Abrahams makes no claim to proficiency in dialectology.
Nevertheless, this judgment seems somewhat conservative for 1963. Well,
there is the old rhyme: "Thirty-two white horses upon a pink(?) hill /
Now they champ / Now they stamp / now they stand still."
