The earliest OED cite for "slim jim" is 1889, Mark Twain's use of it as
a name in Connecticut Yankee.  The next is 1916, a Frost cite from his
poem "A girl's garden" and a Joyce cite from Portrait.  Frost uses it as
an adjective referring to the young girl's thin arms, and Joyce as the
name of a confection that's served in long thin strips.  Are there other
adjectival references that predate Frost's?
