The wall crumbles

I've just heard a black woman pronounce "whining" as "wining" instead
of as "hwining." The old order crumbleth. Well, it's to be expected, I
guess. A barracksmate of mine from Cincinnati once remarked, "Have you
noticed that, in words spelled with 'wh,' the 'h' is not pronounced?"
He was lucky to escape with his life. That was in 1961. I comforted
myself with the thought that we blacks would continue to represent and
keep it real. Oh, well. Nobody ever claimed that desegregation would
not have its down sides. ;-)
