distribute

For the past year I've heard "distribute" on tv and the radio as [dIs trI
byut] with third rather than second syllable stress, as if the
back-formation from "distribution" involved merely eliminating the last
syllable and leaving the stress unchanged. Just at lunch on CNBC the CEO of
Real Networks used it thus. I can imagine a front-shifting of stress to
[dIs] and then a reassertion of the final syllable as the result of
"distribution" but I can't think of other examples, unless this is a new
back-formation.
Any ideas?
