I'm not sure why I think this gives me an opening to share the following,
except maybe as another Friday afternoon funny.
A couple of weeks ago our local NPR station was reporting that our governor
had approved a bid by the Confederated Tribes of the Warm Springs to build
an off-reservation casino in the Columbia River Gorge (one day after
another news story reported that air pollution in the gorge is worse than
previously thought, in part because of auto exhaust from traffic on
I-84--but that's another story). Anyway, they were interviewing some
members of the tribe, and one woman waxed sentimental about how this would
be like a homecoming for the Warm Springs tribes, because "we were there
from the time of Immemorial."
(She didn't say who Immemorial was, but I assume he was a chief during the
tribe's Golden Age.)
