"Affordable housing" seems to be the big buzzword of campaign 2005 in New York City. No longer are "rent control" or "rent stabilization" heard.

The term makes me cringe. 30% "affordable housing"? Who lives in the other 70%--complete idiots? Why not say 70% "market rate" housing and 30% "socialized" housing? But that would sound bad, wouldn't it?
