This should be compared with OED:

1662 Fuller _Worthiers_ (1840) 1. 276  He efforted his spirits with the
remembrance .. of what formerly he had been.

NewspaperARCHIVE.com has 27 articles with "efforting."  Coincidentally (?)
a search of "efforted" also turned up 27 articles.  However, I have not
checked (now the popular word is vetted) these.
ProQuest (27 newspapers) has one article (1989) for "efforting," which
contains a note about that usage "mangling" the language.  For "efforted"
ProQuest provides four articles.
It would be interesting to see what Nexis has.
