Joan Houston Hall (editor, DARE) kindly sent me the following information on "scootch" today:

"[...] DARE has a series of scooch, scoot, scrooch-type entries. At scooch we say "Appar EDD [=English Dialect Dictionary] scouch 'To crouch, stoop, bend over,' perh infl by scrooch; senses 2, 3, and 4 have been infl by scoot."
