I find the phrase "Today's Trade is Tomorrow's Competition" used
(incompletely) in Robert Scully's American gay novel, A SCARLET PANSY (New York: William
Farro, 1933; copyright date 1932). Does anyone know of an earlier cite?
Is there any scholarship on this novel and/or Scully (a pseudonym)? The novel
is supposedly set in the period 1c875
