This is only tangentially related to the recent discussion about the
origins of 'faro', but I thought I'd share it anyway just for the
strained pun:
1905 _Ada (Indian Territory) Evening News_ 28 Dec. (newspaperarchive):
"I've been reading that learned Egyptologist's account of the funeral
of Rameses," said Jokely. "It's a wonder the whole place wasn't
pinched."
"Why?" asked Cokely.
"Well, it was a Pharoah layout."
[pinched = raided by the police]
