A few lines later, a police officer says:
"We just zeroed three kids in a heap."
zero: c. intr. To focus attention on, to concentrate on. Also
transf. (const. on), to get a closer view of a subject with a camera
OED has cites from 1959 to 1985, but all are of the form "zero in" or
"zero in on"; note that this antedating lacks a preposition following.
cheese -- to squeal, to confess. This sense not in OED.
"He's going to cheese, I tell you. Nobody arrested him!"
