taken back/taken aback

In yesterday's Daily Press op-ed section, William Grace (president of Grace Industries, a local organization), referenced an early 1990's article by Bill Maxwell regarding black economic empowerment. Grace states that he was "taken back by the truths in the article." Are we gradually changing from 'taken aback' to 'taken back'? I seem to hear it more and more frequently.
