The lastest OED appeals list asks for any examples of poorness (n.: poverty, indigence) that interdate 1797 - 1932. Here's an example from the New York Surrogate's Court in 1911:
"Considering the poorness of the estate, in this instance, and the miserable condition of the widow, there was no necessity for the expensive transport and burial in New York, or for the new casket procured by the brother on the arrival of the body."
