Is there such a phenomenon as "undercorrection/hypocorrection?

How 'bout this student?  He used "thats" as an equivalent for "whose" applied to inanimate objects.  Wouldn't stop either.  He dropped the class.

Of course the fact that it makes perfect sense has no bearing whatever on English usage.
