I had one of my Research Editors check this out.  He says the New York
Hour did not have a Sept. 11, 1882 issue, and that the article in question
appeared in the Oct. 14, 1882 issue of the Hour.  This is not the earliest
occurrence of the quotation, as ProQuest has hits back to Oct. 9, 1882.
