The University of Chicago: Hurricane Relief

Graduate Programs in the Humanities and Social Sciences

The Divisions of Humanities and Social Sciences will attempt to accommodate
mastersand doctoral degree-seeking students from colleges and universities
in hurricane-stricken areas who wish to be non-degree visiting students at
the University of Chicago for the Autumn 2005 Quarter. Tuition will be
waived if the student has already paid tuition to the home institution. If
the student has not paid the home institution, tuition will be charged at
the home institution's rate of tuition, and UC will remit that amount to
the student's home institution.

Students seeking to apply for emergency visitor status should send relevant
material, including a cv and a statement describing their academic
situation to the following:

Tuesday, September 13. Decisions about admissions will be communicated by
Friday, September 16. Classes begin on Monday, September 26.

College and Law School:

Students displaced by Hurricane Katrina and the ensuing flooding can apply
to the College of the University of Chicago and the Law School for the
forthcoming Fall Quarter, University officials said.
The University will accept a limited number of undergraduate students for
the Fall Quarter, while the Law School plans to accept between five and 15
students uprooted by Katrina, which officials now fear took thousands of
lives and uprooted tens of thousands of people in Louisiana, Mississippi
and the surrounding area.
Undergraduate students who attended college in areas affected by the
natural disaster should send an application, which can be accessed at
http://phoenix.uchicago.edu/sal, by Monday, Sept. 12. The application fee
will be waived and decisions about admissions are expected by Friday, Sept. 16.
Law school applicants should send relevant material, including a resume,
grades or comments explaining their situation to Ann Perry, Dean of
Students, at akperry at uchicago.edu by Thursday, Sept. 8.
The University operates on a quarter system and the next session begins
Monday, Sept. 26.
Logistics regarding credit for courses and tuition will be worked out with
the students' home institutions once operations have stabilized.
