Someone else called me on this off-thread, and I confessed to having had another of those pesky "senior moments."
But the desperate need for millions of gallons of cube-shaped water remains a mystery.

The volume would increase somewhat when frozen, which is why ice
floats on water. (One of only a few liquids, I think, that expands
in the solid state.)
