My mind makes no connection between the use of "village" and the South, so
I was beginning to think we'd probably be safe in saying it has mainly
existed E of the Mississippi & N of the Ohio R.  But it occurs to me that
Mark Twain may have used it in reference to little towns in Missouri.
Anyone?
