OED has an 1890 from Texas. This is from Virginia two years later, but believably asserts usage before 1860.

  1892 _Century Mag._ (Apr.) 954: My grandfather was an officer in the War of 1812....One of the little boys...asked, "And, grandpop, did you run?"
