Acronyms vs. Abbreviations

There is  also this category of "messaging" shorthand, e.g., BTW,
ASAP,OTOH, FWIW.  Do we have a special name for these?  Some are privately
developed between frequent correspondents.  One instance of this is  a
combination initialism/acronym taken from Garrison Keillor's Writer's
Almanac envoi, "Be well, do good work and keep in touch" which evolved from
BWDGWAKIT to "Budgiewackit" (suggesting, but not meaning, the  twittering
of parakeets), used to end letters.
