federalist (OED 1787)

1774 Joseph Priestley _An Address to Protestant Dissenters of All
Denominations_ 19 (Eighteenth Century Collections Online) That there are
some men, wise and good, who are dubious whether our present constitution
can long continue, is without a doubt; but it is equally doubtless, that
no good Federalist has at present any wish to shake the fair and stately
pillars of its fabric, and o'er its lamented ruins to erect the frightful
columns of uncouth monarchy.
