This was a kind of all-purpose exclamation (awe, outrage, protest, whatever
the moment called for) in our neighborhood when I was a kid.  Its source
was obscure to me then: whether movies, comics, radio or the funny papers,
I didn't know since my brother's and my access to such material was
restricted.  Martin remembers it also and thinks it came from the funnies.
I'm not certain about the spelling; the pronunciation was CRYm at nENT lees.
