Stephen Colbert (the real guy, not the TV persona) was recently
interviewed by San Francisco Chronicle TV critic Tim Goodman as part
of the Chronicle's City Arts & Lectures program. It's available in
podcast form here:

Part 3 is of particular interest:

About halfway through Colbert talks about the honor of having
"truthiness" named WOTY (he's clearly done his research-- he reeled
off a few of the past winners). He goes on to say how ecstatic he was
that the AP didn't mention him, since his character was in need of a
persecution complex a la Bill O'Reilly.
