This is a word seemingly not found in OED.
The same Day, one Henry Romer, a German Taylor, who
had a Family and a small House on the Commons, about four Miles from
this City, left his Work early in the Morning at Harlem, and went out
a New-Yearing as it is called: In the Afternoon of the same Day, he
came to a Tavern the Sign of the Doves, on the Harlem Road, and
appeared much in Drink; but he soon left that Place, with a Design to
return home. New-York Gazette, January 15, 1767, p. 3, col. 3
