I also couldn't get CHEESEBURGER or HAMBURGER to come up at all using the
LAPL website for the menues in their Rare Book Collection. Maybe Barry can give
us a better idea of how to use it. I notice that the main web site has changed
since the time that he posted his cite and info on how to use the web site to
search the RBC menu collection.
The earliest CHEESEBURGER that I have is from an early Steak 'n' Shake menu
from about 1934 that is preserved in a local historical society museum in
Illinois. Someone named Edward Adams applied for an Illinois state trademark
registration for "Steak-Burger" in 1935 for a restaurant in Chicago.
