1848 Savigny, Friedrich Karl von. Von Savignys Treatise on possession, or,
The jus possessionis of the civil law : translated from the German. 6th
ed. 8 (Making of Modern Law)  This argument can only be made to stand out
clear by subsequent terminological investigations.

[NOTE: This antedating invalidates the usual assignment of coinage of this
word to Winston Churchill, in his famous reference to "terminological
inexactitude"]
