My own feeling, given the lack of alternative cites, and the  1892 ref.
to 'Lemberg'  (Sweden?) is that it doesn't seem to have been used in
this sense in the UK either. It surely happened, but the terms 'baby
farmer' and 'baby farming' seem to cover the activity. The OED is
well-furnished with mid-late 19C examples.
