Senegal and Gambia. The latter country is a narrow strip - not much
more than a river valley - entirely enclosed by the former, and the fact
that they're separate countries is a colonial accident. They were briefly
joined in the early '80s as the Confederation of Senegambia. I didn't
know the expression went back as far as 1902, though.
