"Nigga" untrademarkable?

I have heard this as well and am, therefore, a little uneasy using 'Jew'--one never knows who might be offended by what.  On the other hand, in German, 'Jude' is totally acceptable and 'jüdische Person' is offensive.  I do not know why such is the case.  I don't even want to get into 'Neger' in German.
