the origin of this phrase

I working in a classroom where one of the teachers has posted the
following on the wall:

The dictionary is the only place where success comes before work.

I've searched the Web briefly and found a couple of variants of this as
well has several attributions, including:
--unknown
Vince Lombardi
Mark Twain
and Arthur Brisbane (also spelled Brisbein).

Does anyone know something more specific about the attribution of this
phrase?
