Eggcorn? guilded vs. gilded

Sifting through email that'd piled up during Spring Break, i ran across
the following from one of WashingtonPost.com's columnist chat sessions
(Steven Pearlstein, 14 March 2006), from a questioner:

all but ignored by the Media and the Politicians, with the notable
exception of John Edwards; namely that we are heading toward another
guilded age.
---

Given that it was a chat on economic topics (particularly income
inequality), the replacement of "guilded" for "gilded" makes sense to me.
