1898 _Godey's Magazine_ May 547 ff. (American Periodical Series)  He
[Lorenzo Dow] was shaped for other uses; of a rugged individualism,
untempered by schooling, uninfluenced by example.  This rugged
individualism it was, indeed, which, in the end, made him a power.
