31 May 1967, Independent-Press-Telegram (Long Beach, CA), "There are some
recipes for soul happy cooks" by Cecily Brownstone, Associated Press Food
Editor, pg. F12:
We came across Happiness Cake in "The Pirates' House Cook Book" by Frances
McGrath (C)(1964)--a collection of "house secrets" from The Pirates' House
Restaurant in Savannah, Georgia. Herb Traub of that restaurant tells us that the
recipe's source is unknown and that he "picked it up along the way."

"LIFE'S RECIPE"
"1 cup of good thoughts
1 cup of kind deeds
1 cup of consideration for others
2 cups of sacrifice for others
3 cups of forgiveness
2 cups of well-beaten faults
...
"Mix these thoroughly and add tears of joy and sorrow and sympathy for
others. Fold in 4 cups of prayer and faith to lighten other ingredients and raise
the texture to great heights of living. After pouring all this into your
daily life, bake well with the heat of human kindness. Serve with a smile. It
should serve a lifetime."
