Could anyone provide references to any work that mentions the AAVE
1sg possessive pronoun form "mines"? Any work that even acknowledges
the existence of this form without necessarily providing any sort of
analysis would be useful to me. I have checked the ADS-L archive for
"mines" and, as far as I could see, all 61 hits dealt with
excavations or explosives. Please send any responses to me directly
(mtwescoat at ucdavis.edu), and I will summarize if there is interest.
BTW, I am aware of a reference in Jespersen's Mod. Eng. Gram., pt 2,
p. 403, to "mines" in what he calls "Scotch." He in turn cites James
A. H. Murray, The Dialect of the Southern Counties of Scotland
(London: Asher & Co., 1873). Any further references for "mines" in
Scots would also be appreciated.
Many thanks for your help,
Michael T. Wescoat
