First of all, thanks once again for the useful comments on innit tag question in English and American English.
One more thing on this:
As a simple reduction of "isn't ( tag question or otherwise) innit doesn't seem to go back very far in England (I may be wrong, given Salikoko's comment that it occurs in Gullah). It doesn't seem to occur in Dickens, for example. Where is the best place to look for first occurrences?
