Not an antedating--well, perhaps by two months.  

In their handy book, Allan Metcalf and David Barnhardt note that the word of the year for 1925 was "motel" and cite it to 'Hotel Monthly' for March.

There's a nice article in the L.A.Times of Jan. 18th that year which lays out the whole story of the project by the Milestone Interstate Corporation for their chain of motels in Calif.
