Old English was better, though not so good as Proto-Indo-European.  The case grammar forced you to diagram sentences in your head as you spoke. This helped you speak more slowly with clearer enunciation and at the same time gave the logic muscles in your brain a healthy workout.

I think we should mandate Middle English pronunciation from now on-- that
way we could all get meaningful (gov't) employment teaching people how to
reverse chain shifts &c. and to pronounce words tha weg the waere meante to
be.
